The Wizard Golf Club isn't exactly the Old Course at St. Andrews, and the Witch Golf Club won't be confused with Pinehurst No. 2, but that doesn't stop Claude Pardue from drawing inspiration from those two great courses. In fact, the one thing you can say about Mystical Golf, which owns a trio of golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area that also includes Man O' War, is that it never stands pat. For years now, Pardue, the CEO and president of Mystical Golf, has been massaging these three unique courses along. The best part is that they are all different, and they continue to evolve.

A major part of the Grand Strand—South Carolina's 60 miles of vacation and beach playground-is Myrtle Beach. And as any golf aficionado knows, it is called the "Golf Capital of the World" with its more than 100 courses and its myriad golf/hotel/restaurant/entertainment/beach options. Both its short distance from I-95 and the nearby Myrtle Beach International Airport, with its non-stop flights from many major cities, make all the attractions easily accessible. Sometimes, these myriad options, especially where to play golf and where to stay, can be confusing. All sorts of excellent golf packages exist up and down the Grand Strand, but Claude Pardue's Mystical Golf offers one of the best plans for two reasons. One, the three well-conditioned golf courses, all designed by renowned architect Dan Maples, are totally different layouts spread around eye-catching scenery, and, two, the whole experience, from the golf, to the pro shops, to the food and beverage services, to the lodging is extremely affordable.

Mystical Golf, owner and operator of the award-winning Witch, Man-O-War and Wizard golf courses, announces its ninth-annual Christmas Child Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, December 15. All proceeds directly benefit young people at the Lighthouse Care Center of Conway, S.C. and Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta, Ga., as well as the McDonald's Angel Tree project. Last year's event raised more than $14,000, bringing the grand total of donations to $114,000 since 2003. The Lighthouse facilities care for children from the ages of 12-17 suffering from behavioral disorders. Funds generated provide activities as rewards for good conduct. They include a trip to Carowinds Amusement Park, monthly movie screenings, bowling, putt-putt golf, Carolina College football games and an annual trip to the Alabama Theatre Christmas Show. Additionally, as a Christmas gift, kids are presented with a new pair of shoes of their own choosing.

You know how it goes...one friend calls up wondering what you are doing for your birthday. Then another one calls and baits you a bit with "we haven't played golf together lately, don't you want an opportunity to win your money back." Next thing you know you have booked ocean front accommodations, three days of golf on three mysterious courses and are heading to the range to tune up the game. After all it is my birthday...I know I am going to be lucky! Let's start with The Witch, a target golf sort of course that winds through 500 acres of the most beautiful swamp you will ever see. Playing this golf course and witnessing the wildlife and scenic insights into the surrounding marshes will definitely cast a spell over you. While I did not witness any witches flying around even though it was their enchanting time of the year, my flat blade accounted for a few grounded birdies.
